



JOYCE TINDSLEY
Mezzo-soprano
Joyce Tindsley was born in Lancashire and, after graduating with a BMus(Hons) from UCNW, Bangor where she studied with William Mathias, went on to study at the RNCM with Barbara Robotham and Christopher Underwood, continuing her studies with Opera North’s Wyn Davies and Sally Burgess.
Whilst at College she appeared as Hermia in Britten’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, Marcellina in Mozart’s “Marriage of Figaro” and Arnalta in Monteverdi’s “L’Incoronazione di Poppea”. After leaving College she sang the part of Olga in Tschaikowsky’s “Eugene Onegin” for Clonter Opera and was asked to sing with English National Opera. In 2010 she was Mrs. Noye in Britten’s “Noye’s Fludde” for a community opera project in Manchester.
Joyce has sung at the Wigmore Hall and in 2003 one of her recitals was filmed for inclusion in a documentary about Kathleen Ferrier. In 2009 Channel 4 filmed one of Joyce’s performances of Handel’s “Messiah” for inclusion in a programme about the British choral tradition. In 2010 she was the soloist for the live BBC Easter meditation from Salisbury Cathedral. Joyce sings regularly for Radio 4’s Daily Service broadcasting live both as a member of the choir and as a soloist. She is also a member of the Britten Singers, formerly the BBC Northern Singers.
Recent and forthcoming concerts include Durufle’s “Requiem” at Manchester Cathedral, Elgar’s “The Apostles” at King’s College, Cambridge for Stephen Cleobury , Bach’s “St. John Passion” with the English Haydn Orchestra, Bach’s “St.Matthew Passion” with the English Symphony Orchestra at Coventry Cathedral, Janacek’s “Glagolitic Mass” at Guildford Cathedral for Christopher Herrick, Rossini’s “Stabat Mater” for North Yorkshire Chorus, Bach’s “Christmas Oratorio” at Malvern Priory, Mozart’s “Requiem” and “Coronation Mass” for Sir David Willcocks at Coventry Cathedral, Tippett’s “A Child of Our Time” at venues including the Bridgewater Hall, Manchester and Lichfield Cathedral as part of the Festival there.
In the autumn of 2008 Joyce was the classical soloist in the UK tour of Karl Jenkins’ “Stabat Mater” under the direction of the composer, performing in venues including St. David’s Hall, Cardiff, York Minster and Winchester Cathedral. In April 2011 she performed the same work with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra at venues in the South-West.
