Rachel Little was born in Kendal and studied with Charlotte Jackson before being accepted at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama under the expert tutelage of Patricia MacMahon and Ian Thompson. During her time at the RSAMD Rachel won the coveted Jean Highgate Scholarship and was chosen to represent the RSAMD in the Kathleen Ferrier Bursary award Competition, she was also the only English finalist in the National Scots Song Competition. Upon graduating in July 2000 with a BMus honours degree Rachel then returned to the RSAMD to study for a postgraduate diploma in concert singing with Patricia MacMahon. Rachel is in great demand as a soloist throughout the UK and particularly enjoys her work as an oratorio singer. Her repertoire includes; Bach Christmas Oratorio, Vivaldi Gloria, Handel Messiah (conducted by Brian Kay), Mozart Solemn Vespers and Mass in C Minor, Mendelssohn Elijah and Hear My Prayer, Poulenc Gloria, the Requiems of Brahms, Faure and Rutter and Haydn's The Creation - first performed with The City of Glasgow Symphony Orchestra and later recorded live for BBC Radio 3, under the baton of Sir Philip Ledger. Rachel was the soprano soloist on the BAFTA award nominated sound track to the Channel Four film Transition, and more recently for the film American Cousins, both composed by Donald Shaw. She has made other solo appearances with choirs in Scotland and the North of England including The Glasgow Philharmonic Male Voice Choir and the K-Shoes Male Voice Choir, and has performed Recitals throughout Britain and Southern France. On the operatic stage Rachel has performed roles such as; Frasquita, Rodelinda, Adele and Rosalinde at the RSAMD and Blanche at the RCM and for the past two years Rachel has sung with the critically acclaimed Opera Holland Park Chorus. This season's repertoire included Tosca, Fidelio, Lucia di Lammermoor and Stiffelio. Rachel also enjoys her involvement with The Council for Music in Hospitals and has performed over 100 concerts in venues throughout England and Scotland. Rachel has taken part in several masterclasses with such distinguished performers as; Wolfgang Holtzmair, Sarah Walker, Roger Vignoles, Benjamin Luxon, Barbara Robotham, Ryland Davies, Anna Reynolds and John Streets. Rachel has recently returned to the Lake District after completing a two-year Postgraduate diploma in Concert singing and Opera with Eiddwen Harrhy at the Royal College of Music in London. Future plans include; Mozart Requiem in Dublin Cathedral, a recital series in the Northeast, a concert tour of Finland and Estonia and a debut CD to be released in the Summer. |
