DIANA PALMERSTON

Soprano

Diana Palmerston studied at the Royal Northern College of Music with Joseph Ward where she won various awards including an R.N.C.M. Scholarship and the Professional Performance Diploma. Whilst at college she sang the title role in the first British performance this century of Handel's 'Teseo' to great acclaim. This led to performances of the same opera with the English Bach Festival at the Royal Opera House, Athens, Italy and at the Sadler's Wells Theatre. Also whilst at college she sang the role of Susan in 'The Dinner Engagement' by Lennox Berkeley which was in the presence of the composer; Lady Penelope Rich in Gloriana; Musetta in La Boheme and Tatyana in Eugene Onegin.

Diana has sung widely as a soloist on the concert platform including performances at London's South Bank Centre and in many British Cathedrals such as Exeter, Worcester, Gloucester, Chester and York Minster.

Diana's career has included many international engagements. In Europe she has sung in France, Italy, Portugal, Switzerland and Germany. In the Far East Diana was a soloist in a Command Performance for the Queen of Thailand. In the Middle East, Diana performed Beethoven's Ninth Symphony in the Cairo Opera House with the Cairo Symphony Orchestra.

Diana has made several recordings for the BBC and Granada Television. She recorded Handel's Messiah for Classic FM from a live national broadcast.

Operatic engagements have included seasons with Opera Factory and the English Bach Festival Opera. She has sung Violetta, (La Traviata) and Mimi, (La Boheme) for Island Opera at the Opera House, Isle of Man.

Recent and forthcoming engagements have included the Soprano Solos in Verdi's Requiem at L'Eglise de la Madeleine, Paris, and Mozart's C Minor Mass with Stephen Cleobury at King's College, Cambridge. Highlights of recent seasons have included Poulenc’s Gloria and Stabat Mater, both at the Bridgewater Hall, Manchester with the BBC Philharmonic under Tortelier; the Verdi Requiem with Sir Philip Ledger; several concerts with the Liverpool Philharmonmic Orchestra and performances of Strauss’ Four Last Songs in Oman with the Royal Oman Symphony Orchestra.

Diana is a vocal tutor at Chethams School of Music, in Manchester and at the junior RNCM.
