Andrew Griffiths hails from the village of Rhos, near Wrexham in North Wales.
His singing career began when he joined the school choir under the baton of John A Daniel. On leaving school, Andrew followed his old music teacher to the ranks of the Froncysyllte Male Voice Choir, where he soon established himself as a solo performer, becoming the youngest soloist in the choir’s history at the age of eighteen.
During his eight years with the choir, (six of which as soloist), Andrew toured America, Canada and Europe, with solo performances at Expo 86 in Vancouver, Canada, as well as numerous other venues.
In 1992, Andrew entered the Royal Northern College of Music on the Professional Performance course, under the direction of Neil Howlett. There, he studied Music, Drama, Dance, Opera, International Song, Singing Technique and the French, German, Italian and Russian Languages.
During his time at the Royal Northern, Andrew honed his stagecraft by performing in several staged opera excerpts, including ‘Falstaff’, ‘Die Fledermaus’, ‘Madam Butterfly’, ‘Marriage of Figaro’, ‘La Traviata’ and ‘Don Pasquale’. He has also taken lead roles in the operas ‘Cendrillon’ (Massenet) and ‘The Maid of Orleans’ (Tchaikovsky), performed in Russian.
Notably, Andrew has also worked with world-renowned names such as Sherrill Milnes, Paul Hamburger, John Rawnsley, Kim Begley and Sir Jonathan Miller.
Andrew's competition successes are numerous, with wins at all the major festivals in Wales and several scholarships under his belt.
His professional career began with Andrew creating the lead role of the Musiklehrer in Sir Jonathan Miller's acclaimed Broomhill production of Richard Strauss' 'Ariadne auf Naxos', receiving very favourable reviews in ‘Opera’ Magazine, The Times and The Daily Telegraph.
Andrew has subsequently followed this by touring with the Opera Company, in which he took the role of Marullo in Verdi's 'Rigoletto', and Mozart's 'Cosi fan Tutte', in which Andrew played the role of Guglielmo.
Now based in Cheshire, Andrew is concentrating on concert performance. Already, his oratorio repertoire is vast, with performances ranging from well known works such as Handel's 'Messiah', to little performed works as 'Dvorak's 'Stabat Mater' and Rutter’s 'Praise Ye The Lord', and has performed at venues such as York Minster and the Royal Albert Hall.
Andrew has gained extensive experience as a concert performer, appearing at most of the major venues in the UK, together with European and American Tours.
His television work for S4C and Granada Television has also received critical acclaim, and is currently negotiating the release of his first album.
