CHARLOTTE JACKSON

Soprano

Charlotte Jackson began her singing career as a member of Cantamus Girls’ Choir under the tutelage of Pamela Cook. Subsequently she studied at the Royal Northern College of Music with Caroline Crawshaw, and at the Guildhall School of Music with Arthur Reckless.

After leaving college Charlotte settled in Cumbria, where she combined a busy career as a soprano soloist, singing teacher and music therapist. Her first love is oratorio and song and a demanding time of singing for choral and music societies ensued. She has been able to pursue both her love of new music, premiering works such as ‘To Honour Our Lady’ by Adrian Self, and her love of song, especially English Song, giving recitals as far afield as Nigeria for the Musical Society of Nigeria, and singing Oratorio with such groups as the London Festival Orchestra with Ross Pople. Future plans include Handel’s Messiah and a summer residency at Kendal Parish Church singing for weddings and services whilst the Church's Choir is on holiday as well as other oratorio and recitals.

Charlotte’s seven years in Cantamus and her desire to share her passion for singing inspired her to establish Amabile Girls’ Choir in 1996. One choir of Charlotte’s own singing students has developed into four choirs, from girls aged four years to women. Charlotte directs Amabile Girls’ Choir, (ages 13 to 18), which at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod 2002 won the Senior Children’s Choir class, and in November 2006 became the BBC Radio 3 Youth Choir of the Year. Charlotte is Artistic Director for Amabile Choirs and has been a Musical Director for Songs of Praise for the BBC.

Over the years Charlotte has had the pleasure of teaching many young people for local national and international institutions including Lancaster University, the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain and the Musical Society of Nigeria. She currently teaches at Sedbergh School and maintains a private practice, teaching mainly the girls of Amabile.

Charlotte is a trustee of two music charities: Westmorland Music Council and Amabile Choirs.
