CHARLOTTE JACKSON

Soprano

Charlotte Jackson began her singing career as a member of Cantamus Girls’ Choir under the tutelage of Pamela Cook. Subsequently she studied at the Royal Northern College of Music with Caroline Crawshaw, and at the Guildhall School of Music with Arthur Reckless.

After leaving college Charlotte settled in Cumbria, where she combined a busy career as a soprano soloist, singing teacher and music therapist. Her first love is oratorio and song and a demanding time of singing for choral and music societies ensued. She has been able to pursue both her love of new music, premiering works such as ‘To Honour Our Lady’ by Adrian Self, and her love of song, especially English Song, giving recitals as far afield as Nigeria for the Musical Society of Nigeria, and singing Oratorio with such groups as the London Festival Orchestra with Ross Pople.

In January 2010 Charlotte was a CREAR Scholar, spending a week studying song with the international pianist and song coach, Malcolm Martineau. She has been invited to give a recital with him in Wales later in 2011. Other recent and future solo engagements include Petite Messe Solennelle, Rossini, Howard Goodall’s Eternal light: A Requiem, Messiah, Handel and a recital in Washington DC with fellow soprano Dawn Frederick.

Charlotte’s desire to share her passion for singing inspired her to establish Amabile Girls’ Choir in 1996.  It enjoyed national and international success, the pinnacle of which was winning BBC Radio 3 Youth Choir of the Year in 2006. The special sound of Amabile was attributed to each member having individual singing lessons. Charlotte relinquished her position with Amabile last year.

In spring 2010 Charlotte was invited by Christopher Bell founder and Musical Director of the National Youth Choir of Scotland to direct the inaugural NYCoS National Girls Choir Training Group and in September 2010 became Musical Director of the NYCoS Dumfries Choir. In February 2011 she spent a weekend working with the NYCoS Training Choir. Other choral work is free-lance with choral consultancy in the USA as well as at home.

Over the years Charlotte has had the pleasure of teaching many young people for local, national and international institutions such as Lancaster University, St Martin’s College, Lancaster, the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain and the Musical Society of Nigeria. She currently teaches at Sedbergh School, Austin Friars St. Monica’s in Carlisle and maintains a private practice.
